Universal Music Publishing is the #1 music publisher in the world. I shot a short video clip of David Renzer, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Publishing, when he was visiting us at Garage Geeks. In this video he discusses the exciting activities that are coming up in his company – including a Los Angeles/Tel-Aviv partnership that was created in order to promote cross cultural projects. Universal Music specializes in copyrighting of artists’ songs, and they represent some of the biggest artists in the world – including U2, Coldplay and Eminem. Universal Music’s job is to protect rights of their music artists and to help their songs get publicity in films and television. In this short video clip, watch how David Renzer really educates the crowd about the proper licensing of music rights, as he admits this is not a simple task. Watch at the end as Ran Geffen provides his “2cents” on the ultimate goal of copyrighting.

    Looks like you also have discovered where he real problem is. Copyright and laws never going to put food on the table for the owners of a song. That does money so instead of getting more laws and more difficult copyrights to follow. The right way should be to see so copyright owners gets paid so simple as possible. One way to start with could be to start a nonprofit org. That have as only mission to offer all copyright owners selling their songs. As in: You make a song - Then you set a price on your song - Then they offer your song to all companys that have services like radio, spotify, lastfm for the price you want for anyone to use your song. That will give any service company to choose if they want your song in their music sevice (They may not want it cuase the sell opera and your song is schlager) Then they them self can decide if your not so famous song should have the same price as madonnas (or whatever) cuase you want so much. Or maybe you have offered it for a smal amount making them choose your song just couse it´s cheap. Idees like this is whats needed not more complicated copyright owner ships.

  • Should have added: As it is now when few service companys gets exclusive access to sertain content and are the only ones that offers songs that peeps want is tha baddest bad ass ideee again. Cuz no one want´s to be forced to get 10different service accounts to get what they want. And as allways copyright owners going to loose money cuz people will look up non legal ways to get what they want whithout having to pay for 10 different services
